Mission
The mission of Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.

Ministries

Kairos Inside
Kairos Inside is composed of well-organized and well-trained volunteer teams of men and women from the communities surrounding an institution present an introductory 3-day weekend, described as a short course in Christianity. This inter-denominational team of volunteers – both clergy and laypersons – works in cooperation with the Chaplain who carefully selects up to 42 inmate leaders to attend. Well organized follow-up is part of this program.

Kairos Weekend
The Kairos Weekend is a starting point for many incarcerated individuals on a walk of faith. For others, it is an opportunity to continue and grow in their spiritual lives. The 3-day Weekend is led by an inter-denominational team of volunteers dedicated to introduce, encourage, and support Christianity. The volunteers are well-trained persons presenting carefully constructed talks along with individual and group activities. It is an invitation to live in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Kairos Reunion
The Kairos Monthly Reunion is an essential and integral part of the Kairos ministry of continuing presence. These meetings provide a “safe community” where the institution’s Kairos community can receive support and encouragement. Kairos is a ministry of affirmation and reconciliation.

Prayer and Share
Kairos is a continuing presence within the prison. The Weekend is the first step in the process of creating a community of trust, Christian inspiration, and support for each Participant. Prayer and Share group meetings are open to all who have attended a Kairos Weekend and allow Participants to share and pray together in a small closely-knit group. The goal is to have Prayer and Share Meetings each week with a small group of residents.

Kairos Retreat
About three months after each Weekend, Participants who attended the Weekend plus others selected by the Chaplain are invited to attend a one-day Retreat within the unit. The purpose of the Retreat is to refresh and renew the attendee’s Weekend experience and encourage him to continue in or become part of the Kairos community within the unit. The Retreat consists of eight talks, small group discussions, prayer, music, meditations, and, of course, good food. The Wainwright Retreats usually last about eight hours.

Kairos Outside
Kairos Outside is a special weekend retreat designed to support the female loved ones of men and women who are or have been incarcerated. Families of the incarcerated “do time” right along with their loved ones. In a safe environment with loving people, women interact with other women who are in similar situations and learn to form small support groups to give them strength for the challenges they face.
